snorkeling or scuba diving in fort laud.?
my fiance and are honeymooning in ft laud in late march. we want to snorkel and scuba dive and want to know locations close to us. we are staying at the embassy suites on ocean drive in ft laud. should we bring our own snorkeling gear and find spots ourselves or rent and go with a group? also if anyone knows of anything close to our hotel pls let me know. thanks for any and all help. hope to help you in the future...
There are many boats north and south of the area and the diving is great! If you are looking to do some shore diving you're also in a great place. Lauderdale by the Sea (or LBTS as it is often referenced) is close by and you can swim out to dive or snorkel on 3 reefs that parallel the shore. They are 100 yards / 200 yards and about 350 off shore if I recall. The easier entry I know of is just north of the pier (however is someone is more local they may have a different opinion.) There is a dive shop right in the area that can do rentals and fills. Depending on the type of boat diving you'd like to do can help dictate whether you'd consider north or south. As you get north toward jupiter you are close to the gulfstream and the majority of diving is drift diving. If you go south you can find some anchor diving. If you are into the snorkeling as much as diving check out biscane or ideally pennecamp on key largo. These have great colorful reefs that are perfect for snorkeling.
